In this workshop we intend to equip researchers with a working knowledge of the global patent system and provide methodologies for identifying and interacting with patent data, so that they can use it as a day-to-day intelligence source.
the workshop will provide answers to the following questions:
-What is a patent?
-How does a patent differ to other intellectual property rights, e.g. copyright, trademarks and industrial secrets?
-How does the patent filing system work?
-What are the best practices for searching for patents?
-How do you read a patent document?
-How are patents are useful to organizations in their research and development pathway?

Instructor:
Ed White, DIRECTOR, PATENT ANALYTICS
Ed has designed and fostered many of the metrics and visual styles in use today. He has spent most of his career at Thomson Reuters and its divested IP and Science business: Clarivate Analytics. Ed spent 2 years leading the Analytics business of Landon IP/CPA Global before returning to Clarivate in 2018. In this time, he managed and built professional production teams and environments for the delivery of high quality, high accuracy work for clients large, small and governmental across almost all industry sectors.
Ed has a degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Nottingham, and in his early career specialized in the technical fields of instrumentation, measurement and plasma/particle physics.
This workshop is provided by Nilepreneurs, a national initiative funded by Central Bank of Egypt, and implemented by Nile University to enhance the ecosystem for entrepreneurs in Egypt through its different programs, in partner with Clarivate Analytics and Egyptian Knowledge Bank
